What percentage of charge is best for storing your car?
When you plug in your electric car, the charger “fills it up” to 100%, then stops. Once it is fully charged, there is no need to leave the car plugged in anymore. However, leaving the battery fully charged for an extended period of time is not recommended. In fact, it may actually accelerate the wear on battery cells. The best option is to charge your battery to no more than 50% before leaving your car parked for an extended period of time.
It is best not to leave the battery completely empty either so that it could regularly recharge the small 12V battery that powers the car’s various accessories. On average, we recommend a minimum charge of 20%. This way, the car would be ready to drive right away, without needing to be charged first.
There are many vehicle companies, that provide electric vehicles, such as MG, and Tata Nexon. And all of them have their own rules regarding minimum charging. But yes, their range is between 25% to 75%.
Can we drive EV when it is just 10 percent?
Logically Yes, you can drive your vehicle even if your vehicle is just 10% charged. But we recommend to immediately charge your vehicle if it is charged less than the threshold defined by your OEM. Running out of charging means your car will stop on the way only, and in this case, you have to tow it to the nearest charging station. But we have to take care of its charging beforehand only. We should not drive a car for less than the minimum charging. Driving an EV with less than the given minimum charging number may be dangerous for the battery of the car, the battery may be spoiled soon.
And if your battery gets affected, you will have to replace it. Otherwise, it will affect the life of your electric vehicle.
