Mercedes-Benz expects 25 % of its sales in India from EVs in the coming 5 years
Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director & CEO Martin Schwenk on 24.08.2022 confirmed that the company hopes 25 % of its total sales in India will come from EVs in the coming 5 years. The German company’s Indian arm will be launching 3 Electric Vehicles in the coming 4 months as part of the plan to accelerate its electric mobility journey in India.
Under the strategy, the company launched its all-electric performance luxury sedan, Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC, with a price starting at Rs 2.45 crore (all India ex-showroom prices) on 24.08.2022. This is going to launch the locally assembled all-electric sedan EQS 580 in the coming months followed by the 7-seater electric SUV, EQB, in the coming 2-3 months.
PTI quoted Schwenk as saying that “we are very optimistic & we are bullish to look at around, say 25 % of sales in the coming 5 years (from Electric Vehicles)”. PTI quoted Schwenk also said, “Whether it comes early or later, not decided yet but 2 years back, we would not have had the guts to make that statement, at least something started”
The company had sold a total of 11,242 units last year, while in the 1st half of 2022 it registered sales of approx. 7,573 units.
