Step by step guide to install an EV Charger at home
In recent years, the demand for mobility has been increasing, whether it is businesses, consumers, or governments. All are focusing on zero-emission mobility. So, to achieve this, we have electric vehicles, battery EVs and many more. If we have an electric two wheeler or electric car, it requires charging. And in this case, it’s a good idea to install an EV charger at home only. On the other hand, most of the people using EV are like other things. Though, it is always advisable to charge it through EV charging station for your safety.
There are many levels of EV chargers available in market- level 1, level 2 and level 3. Level 1 is the slowest, and level 3 can charge an EV’s battery in about an hour. Though level 2 charger in your garage only will be good for you. These chargers provide about 240 volts of power and can charge an electronic battery anywhere from five to seven times faster.
Level 2 chargers use a different kind of plug to connect because they require a connector plug with additional wires to carry the additional power. Many Electronic vehicles come with some kind of J1772 connector and if they don’t, you can easily buy one online from the manufacturer. Level 2 chargers could be installed in-home for faster charging without relying on a public station. It will be little bit expensive, but drastically reduces the hassle of at-home EV charging. These chargers are very fast, easy and safe to use at home.
Steps to install an EV Charger at home:
To install it, we have to take care of many things, like:
1. Talk to electrician
You must talk to your electrician that you want to install an EV charger. He will guide you everything related to this.
2. Taking permission to install an EV charger
First of all, you have to take permission for its installation. You must check whether your home’s electricity system is eligible for its installation or not. In case, it’s not eligible and requires upgradation, then you have to take permission for its upgradation too. Your electrician will help you out in this thing.
3. Confirm the electrical panel and space
After taking permission for installation, you must check the electrical panel in your home. Because EV charger has little bit big electric circuit breaker. Your electrician again will help you out in this thing.
4. Buying a level 2 charger
Always make sure that you are purchasing a good brand charger from a reputed shop. If you purchase the local charger, it might cost you lesser but there will be no guarantee of it plus chances will be high that your EV will get affected. SO, for our home and EV safety point of view, we should purchase a good company charger only.
5. Call an electrician
Now, when every preparation is done, it’s time to call the electrician. You must have talked with the electrician earlier, now call him to install the charger.
6. Installation
Now, everything is done, your electrician will install it. You can charge your EV from your home garage only.
